Bengaluru, 9th June, 2025; FLO, the women’s wing of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), hosted a thought-provoking and inspiring session titled Frontline India, bringing together two of India’s most formidable women leaders –Ambassador Nirupama Rao, former Foreign Secretary of India and Captain Yashika Hatwal Tyagi, Army veteran and motivational speaker.
The session distilled powerful leadership lessons that are especially relevant for women today. It emphasized that authenticity is strength, encouraging women to embrace their uniqueness and lead with confidence. Emotional intelligence, clear communication, and decisiveness were highlighted as vital qualities that women inherently bring to leadership roles. Rather than competing, fostering collaboration and solidarity was seen as key to building stronger, more supportive communities. The art of diplomacy balancing intellect, empathy, and restraint—emerged as a valuable skill in both governance and business. The discussion also stressed the importance of strategic communication and dynamic priority management, urging women to remain adaptable, resilient, and focused in the face of evolving challenges.
Ambassador Nirupama Rao offered deep insights into the world of international diplomacy, reflecting on her decades-long career representing India on the global stage and Captain Yashika Hatwal Tyagi shared powerful anecdotes from her life in the armed forces, emphasizing the importance of mental strength, perseverance, and breaking gender stereotypes.

The powerful conversations reminded us all of the importance of owning our voices and embracing authenticity in every aspect of our lives. ‘Frontline India’ is more than just an event; it is a celebration of the strength, resolve, and extraordinary achievements of women like Captain Yashika Hatwal Tyagi&Ambassador Nirupama Rao, who have carved their space in diverse and challenging domains. We are honoured to host such a powerful exchange of ideas and experiences that inspire and empower.”
Speaking her thoughts on the session,Ambassador Nirupama Rao, former Foreign Secretary of India, said, “In today’s world, women are stepping forward to redefine what it means to lead from the frontlines, be it in foreign policy, governance, or national defence. Their courage, insight, and dedication are shaping India’s narrative on the global stage and within our borders . Leadership today requires more than just authority; it demands empathy, resilience, and the ability to listen deeply, especially in complex and rapidly evolving environments. True progress comes from creating inclusive spaces where diverse experiences and perspectives come together to build solutions that are just and sustainable. Events like ‘Frontline India’ are essential because they celebrate these values and encourage more women to take their rightful place in shaping India’s future.”
Speaking her thoughts on the session, Captain Yashika Hatwal Tyagi– Army veteran & motivational speaker, shared, “It was an absolute honour to be part of ‘Frontline India’ with FICCI FLO — a platform that truly celebrates the strength and spirit of women who lead with purpose and passion. My journey as a Captain in the Indian Army has been one of learning, courage, and constantly challenging stereotypes. When I joined the armed forces, it was still a space where women had to prove their worth every day. Wearing the uniform wasn’t just about service; it was about paving the way for every young girl who dared to dream differently. Sharing my story with an audience of changemakers and future leaders was deeply humbling. These conversations matter because they bring forward real stories of grit, resilience, and leadership—stories that inspire transformation. I hope sessions like these continue to light that spark in every young woman ready to rise, lead, and serve with purpose.”
The session was powerful, inspiring, and deeply personal, highlighting the values of courage, purpose-driven leadership, and national service. The session resonated strongly with FLO members, young professionals, and aspiring leaders in the audience.DekyiYangtso Chawla, Chairperson of FICCI FLO Bangalore.
